MIA screens at Disney in 3 days. Excited is a serious understatement. (Poster design by Brian Leahy.)
20 OCTOBER 2018
Brian and I rarely get to attend film festivals arm-in-arm… particularly not twice in the same week. Here we celebrating the 26th screening of our film #WAFFLES at the 10th Annual DTLA Film Festival. Bravo to programmer Robert Torres for putting together a truly eclectic collection of LGBT shorts with a diversity of styles and voices.
17 OCTOBER 2018
Screened #WAFFLES tonight for a killer crowd at El Cid as part of the quarterly Unreasonable Shorts series. Kudos to organizer Torrey Drake for celebrating the short film format and for ensuring that women directors, writers and actors were all well represented this evening. #RepresentationMatters

MIA is wrapped! What a beautiful albeit busy day of filmmaking. Immense gratitude to ALL who brought their A-game to this #Latinx centered film. Thanks to BeCine for sponsoring this film with an Arri Alexa Mini and Cooke Optics anamorphic lenses. Special shoutout to the amazing Hey What’s Your Face for sponsoring all of our grip and electric for this shoot. Disney Studios: Here we come!!
2 SEPTEMBER 2018
On Monday, August 27th, Brian and I released our short film WAFFLES on Vimeo. Although our festival run is not yet complete (we have 4 upcoming screenings in September and October!), we were just too eager to share it with the world. Since then, WAFFLES has been watched over 4,500 times, was honored as a #DailyShortPick by FilmShortage.com, and was featured on the prestigious Short of the Week Vimeo channel. And we just got our first online review courtesy of CloseUpCulture.com. If you haven't had your WAFFLES yet, please click the link below. If you have, go get seconds. ;)

Sound on! 🎶Today I gave final notes on the sound mix and score for MADE PUBLIC at Canon Burbank's stunning studio with the AMAZING @hottraxinc, one of our generous Emergence Award partners! Art Dixie and his HTI sound team are exceptionally talented and a dream to work with. #EmergenceTCD for the win!

I am honored to be selected as one of 6 directors from Alliance of Women Directors - AWD to shoot a film as part of Shoot 'Em Up! Here's the gist: 6 storytellers inspire 6 screenplays, which then inspire 6 short films. And I get to direct one of them! Tonight I'll be heading to El Cid on Sunset, where I'll find out which script I'll be shooting. Stay tuned for updates on the process and the debut of our short films!
21 AUGUST 2018
No one likes to play favorites... but this one is my favorite.
A quick side note: Mara Altman's new book, Gross Anatomy: Dispatches from the Front (and Back), publishes TODAY! Go get the book that inspired this video series.

The second installment is here! Check out "The Interview" and try not to sweat the small stuff...
15 AUGUST 2018
These are the days we LIVE for! Got to spend 8 hours in a color session with the team at the incomparable Tunnel Post (shout out to our brilliant colorist Taylor Mahony), bringing some much-needed saturation to our film and watching Jeanine Mason and Josh Zuckerman tear up the screen in vivid technicolor. #MadePublic
14 AUGUST 2018
The first video in Mara Atlman's Gross Anatomy book trailer series, which I had the pleasure to direct back in April, has been released on YouTube! Watch "The Brunch" right here!

Honored to share our current cut of MADE PUBLIC tonight with the Alliance of Women Directors! As a member of this amazing organization, I can't tell you what it means to screen our short in a room full of incredibly talented women and hear their first impressions. Thanks AWD!

I first learned about the non-profit organization Moms-in-Film in 2017, when my 5-month-old daughter and I traveled to Austin, Texas, for the SXSW Film Festival. The Wee Wagon, "the film industry's first mobile childcare unit," was made available to moms like me at zero expense, allowing me to attend screenings and network with fellow film industry professionals throughout the day. It was then that I instantly fell in love with MIF's mission: "to energize the careers of mothers in film and television by providing community, funding and advocacy."
One year later, I am proud to be an official Board Member of Moms-in-Film, spreading the word about the organization's philosophy and advocating for free childcare for moms and dads on EVERY film set. Visit the MIF website to learn more, make a tax-deductible donation, or starting a Moms-in-Film chapter in your own city. #BudgetTheBaby
P.S. Read the BBC article about our SXSW experience: Is child care the answer to Hollywood's gender gap?

I'm so thrilled to share that I'm a Top 5 Finalist for the SHIFT Creative Fund Grant! Brian's newest script, 5 STAGES OF GRIEF, is an intensely dark, unexpectedly funny farce, which could be (fingers crossed) the recipient of a $30,000 production grant + some invaluable partnerships and mentorships, all thanks to SHIFT. Congrats to all the finalists!
17 APRIL 2018
A week and change after MADE PUBLIC wrapped, DP Katharine White and I switched gears and shot a hilarious 4-part web series called GROSS ANATOMY, based on a new book by author (and actress!) Mara Altman. Keep an eye out for them in the coming months!
8 APRIL 2018
Over the last 3 days, more than 100 people gathered in a big, beautiful church in Pasadena and helped us make MADE PUBLIC possible. We repeatedly pinched ourselves. It was extraordinary.
And while we were production-brained for those action-packed 72 hours, once we wrapped, we reminded ourselves that none of this would be possible without our incredible cast and crew, without the folks at The Camera Division and Emergence, without our Executive and Associate Producers and our massive team of supporters. We're in awe and will continue to be.

15 MARCH 2018
Attended an incredible discussion of female empowerment and diversity in media with Gina Rodriguez, Maria Bello, Jennie Urman, Sara Ramirez, Sonequa Martin-Green, Aline Brosh McKenna, and Lori McCreary. Powerful words, ladies. Thank you for sharing your stories. Thanks to CBS for hosting #EyeSpeak, and thanks to the Alliance for Women Directors for the invite!
10 MARCH 2018
After a month of campaigning and an outpouring of support from our community (and beyond), we got the GREEN LIGHT from Seed & Spark and now go into production mode for MADE PUBLIC! Endless gratitude to all who followed, shared, and contributed in order to make MADE PUBLIC possible. HERE WE GO!
7 MARCH 2018
It's been a busy spring for WAFFLES. After screening in Oxford, Mississippi, our 4-minute film shipped out to Arizona for the Worldwide Women's Film Festival and then to SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (!!!) for Queer Screen Mardi Gras Film Festival, where WAFFLES has 4 separate screenings and was named one of the Best of MGFF18 Shorts. And we only moments ago received notification that WAFFLES will make its European premiere this May. Stay tuned for more updates!
10 JANUARY 2018
Bring on 2018 - and the three new festivals that WAFFLES has been accepted to this Spring. First stop is the acclaimed Oxford Film Festival in Oxford, Mississippi. For our Mississippians out there, we'll be screening as part of the LGBTQ program on February 9. THANKS OXFORD!
5 DECEMBER 2017
Tonight I had the rare pleasure of screening PLATYPUS at the Downtown Independent and sharing the final product with the Reel Pros Co-op community. After months of editing and fine-tuning on a 13-inch screen, there's nothing better than watching a film come to life in a theater. Thrilled as always to share the red carpet with Lola Noh (below), a longtime friend, Reel Pros member, and our Producer on MADE PUBLIC.
29 NOVEMBER 2017
THE WORD IS OUT. I'm proud to share that I have been chosen as a 2017 Emergence Recipient. Emergence is a group of companies that have come together to promote much-needed diversity in Hollywood; it's through the support of The Camera Division and the entire Emergence team that I'm able to direct my new short, MADE PUBLIC, in March of 2018.
1 NOVEMBER 2017
I'm thrilled to announce my next project :: MADE PUBLIC :: made possible by a yet-to-be-announced grant from an amazing organization (more on that soon). We're currently racing through pre-production to prepare for a March 2018 shoot. Follow us on Facebook for updates!

What's happening in Albuquerque, New Mexico, this weekend? Apparently a giant "Balloon Fiesta"... and the Way OUT West Film Fest! WAFFLES will hold it's 7th screening in great company as part of the 'Fun in Girls Shorts' program (love that title). Much love, Albuquerque!
14 OCTOBER 2017
WAFFLES scores another film festival laurel with the 6th annual Laughlin International Film Festival in Nevada! The film screens on Saturday, October 14 @ 11AM. We'll save you a seat, Nevada.

That's a wrap on LOVE SCENES, LLC, a female-driven pilot presentation written and created by Lira Kellerman, directed by yours truly, with always-stunning cinematography by the killer Katharine White. Pictured below (left to right): Aly Mawji, Lira Kellerman, Arielle Hader, Eric Hale, and - well - me. Learn more about this project on Lira's Kickstarter page.

12 AUGUST 2017
Attended the SoCal Clips Indie Film Festival for the premiere of BLUE RIBBON SPECIAL, a short film in which I played a knocked-up waitress (and actually got knocked up for the part last summer). Written and directed by Keith Barber. Also starring Adam Ambruso and Barry Papick.

Attended the Los Angeles premiere of WAFFLES at El Cid on Sunset's Female Filmmaker Short Film Night with Waffles stars Leslie Stevens (center) and Jeanine Mason (right).

WAFFLES heads up a very busy month with a festival screening "just down the road" from my childhood home. Our Hometown Premiere is at the North Carolina Gay + Lesbian Film Festival (NCGLFF) in Durham. There are 3 screenings as part of the "Hear My Heart Burst Again" shorts program: August 10, 11 and 17. Join my friends and family at the screenings if you're around! #chapelhill
4 AUGUST 2017
Principal photography on PLATYPUS wrapped on July 1st, and we've been in knee-deep in post-production ever since. Reel Pros Productions will be hosting a private screening this September before the film begins the festival circuit.
14 JULY 2017
I was recently invited to be a guest on I'm the One Pushing: A Podcast for Moms Who Live Outside the Box, hosted by Ivette Garcia Davila. We discussed my three very different births in detail and the challenges of parenting while working in a creative field, among other things.
2017 INSIDE OUT LGBT FILM FESTIVAL
24 MAY 2017
On the same day that WAFFLES is scheduled to premiere at the Inside Out LGBT Film Festival... it will also hold it's U.S. Premiere at the Brooklyn Women's Film Festival in New York City. So much to love about this festival - not the least of which is that all ticket proceeds go to New York Women in Film & Television, a non-profit organization that provides support to female filmmakers.
6 MAY 2017
Our short film WAFFLES will hold it's World Premiere at the 2017 Inside Out LGBT Film Festival in Toronto as part of the "Shorts: LOL" program. Excited to trek to Toronto and be in the audience when our film makes its big screen debut.
